Pier Sixty-Six with its eye-catching midcentury modern design, has been one of Fort Lauderdale's most beloved hospitality destinations for decades. In 2017, the hotel was forced to close after it sustained heavy water damage from Hurricane Irma. But as of January, Pier Sixty-Six is officially back open for business after a massive, $1 billion renovation.
The 32-acre property that the hotel sits upon was originally developed in the 1950s by Phillips 66 Petroleum, who used the land as a fuel dock. The hotel, with its iconic 66-spire facade, made its debut in 1965 with an expansive marina and its signature rotating rooftop lounge, the Pier Top, that attracted celebrities from Walter Cronkite to Frank Sinatra with its glitzy views of the Atlantic.
After its extensive makeover, the hospitality mega-complex now boasts a new additional hotel tower, 325 rooms, 88 private residences, a new 13,000-square-foot spa, three pools, and 12 restaurants. Fort Lauderdale is known as the "Yachting Capital of the World," and a crown jewel of the property is the Pier Sixty-Six Marina, one of the largest superyacht marinas on the East Coast—it has 164 slips that can accommodate vessels up to 400 feet in length. But perhaps the most hotly anticipated feature of the hotel is the historic, rotating Pier Top, slated to reopen in March—and it’s leaning heavily into its luxury x-factor.
“Pier Top reveals 360-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, skyline, cruise port, and marina and [offers] modernized dishes like retro caviar pie, featuring 125 grams of Golden Osetra caviar, house-smoked salmon, whipped crème fraîche, œufs mimosa, chives, all served in a tart shell like a pie and topped with gold leaf,” Colm O'Callaghan, Pier Sixty-Six vice president and managing director, said in a statement to Travel + Leisure.
However, while the Pier Top is preparing for its debut, there are still plenty of other restaurants to check out, ranging from Calusso, offering French and Italian Riviera-inspired seafood and pasta options, to Sotogrande, specializing in southern Spanish coastal cuisine and eastern Mediterranean flavors.
“Pier Sixty-Six is Broward County's first property in two decades with this many food and beverage destinations,” O’Callaghan said.
After eating to their heart’s content, guests can relax and unwind at the expansive, soon-to-debut Zenova Spa & Wellness facility, which will feature body treatment rooms, a VIP suite, as well as a “snow room,” a fun alternative to a cold plunge. And if you’re looking to plan a get-together, the revamped Pier Sixty-Six has one of the largest event spaces in the city, with over 40,000 square feet for guests to utilize.
To O’Callaghan, Pier Sixty-Six’s revival, with all of its shiny new amenities, is a larger symbol for the future of Fort Lauderdale.
“Pier Sixty-Six serves as a bridge between Fort Lauderdale’s past and the present cultural renaissance unfolding,” O’Callaghan said.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (April 16, 2025) – A crash with injuries occurred Wednesday morning on Florida’s Turnpike northbound (SR-91 NB) near mile marker 53 in Fort Lauderdale. Emergency services were dispatched and arrived at the scene simultaneously at approximately 10:20 a.m., where they quickly assessed and treated the injured.
First responders from Broward County Fire Rescue provided immediate medical attention to individuals involved in the crash. Although officials have not confirmed the total number of people injured or the exact nature of their injuries, it has been verified that treatment was necessary at the scene.
Fortunately, the crash site was quickly cleared, and no lanes remained blocked. Traffic resumed normal flow shortly after, with minimal disruption to northbound travel along this stretch of the turnpike.
The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. Contributing factors such as speed, distracted driving, or lane changes are commonly reviewed in incidents of this nature.

What makes a live music venue great? Is it the shape of the building? The acoustics? The sound system? Ultimately, it's about the music. Even if a venue is a state-of-the-art facility, it's nothing if it can book acts that people want to see live.

All three spaces host live music, from legacy acts to jazz groups and orchestras. While not a regular occurrence, contemporary pop, hip-hop, and R&B artists will also perform here.
Culture Room

The intimate venue has played host to countless midsized acts over the decades, from Charli XCX and A Flock of Seagulls to the Misfits and Bleachers. It's standing-room-only here, so don't expect any VIP comforts — not that patrons would have it any other way. Culture Room has lasted over the years because it never forgets the most important thing: the music.

The Pompano Beach venue focuses mainly on local acts as well as smaller touring acts making their way to South Florida. Most shows here are all-ages, which is a rarity for concert venues of this size. While it will host late-night parties now and then, Grimz's specialty is rock music in its most noisest forms: punk, hardcore, alternative, postpunk, indie rock, and metal. The black-box space is bare bones, but your attention should be on the stage and not the decor.

Hard Rock Live

After tearing down the old venue, Hard Rock Live returned in 2019 as a state-of-the-art space with a capacity for 7,000 concertgoers. Weezer, Green Day, Billy Joel, Elton John, Maroon 5, Megan Thee Stallion — they've all performed here. Hard Rock Live often punches well above its weight, booking acts that could easily fill stadiums to perform here.

The Parker

These days, it's managed and operated by the Broward Center, which manages to book a steady stream of performers, mostly legacy acts. The Might Be Giants, Dweezil Zappa, Ben Folds, Amy Grant, Sophie Ellis‐Bextor, and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram have performed here in recent years. With so many venues around the city, it often feels like the Parker gets overlooked by bigger and flashier spaces, but make no mistake, it's a great midsized venue.
Pompano Beach Amphitheater
1801 NE Sixth St., Pompano Beach 561-223-7231 pompanobeacharts.org/ampManaged by AEG, the Pompano Beach Amphitheater can accommodate up to 10,000 patrons — 3,000 in seats and 7,000 on the lawn. Thanks to its design, there isn't a bad seat in the house. National touring acts mostly stop here — not enough, if you ask me, though. It almost feels underutilized. Still, the acts that do come are top-notch, like Willie Nelson, the Mavericks, UB40, Patti LaBelle, and Third Eye Blind.

Revolution Live
100 SW Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale 954-449-1025 jointherevolution.netFormerly home of the Chili Pepper, Revolution Live opened its doors in 2004 and quickly became the go-to midsized venue in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The venue has hosted plenty of before-there-were-famous shows, including a pre-The Fame Monster Lady Gaga, Katy Perry still riding the high of "I Kissed a Girl," the Weeknd before he made his major-label debut. There's a good chance Revolution is still hosting tomorrow's biggest acts right now. The venue's industrial feel only adds to its charms, with a stand-room-only pit area and plenty of mezzanine and balcony spaces if you want to enjoy a show in a bit more comfort.

War Memorial Auditorium

The venue has been in operation since 1950 when it was the city's imminent venue for all kinds of shows. Over the decades, it would be surpassed by newer venues with more bells and whistles, but it was primed for a comeback. Thankfully, under the management of the Florida Panthers, the auditorium received a $65 million refresh, with its signature midcentury modern façade looking as good as ever.
