MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Snow is falling in much of Minnesota on Wednesday, which could make for some slick roads and a challenging commute.
Snow in Minnesota
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for portions of northwestern Minnesota from midnight to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Accumulating snow and wind gusts could create some hazardous conditions and slippery roads.
While the bulk of the snow will be in northwestern Minnesota, a minor coating on grassy surfaces and a few slick spots on area roadways are possible elsewhere.
Snowflakes will be sporadic through the afternoon in the Twin Cities metro, but the chances for snow will stick around through the evening before drying out overnight.
Crashes and spinouts
Snow on Wednesday is creating some slippery road conditions across the state.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, there was a statewide total of 455 crashes, 420 of which resulted in property damage, 34 injuries and one fatality. There were also 18 jackknifed semis.
FOX 9 meteorologist Cody Matz explains that as temperatures hover around or below freezing on Wednesday, it could create some slick road conditions. When the ground is warm, snowflakes melt as they make contact with the road. But at some point during the day, the ground will start to freeze, meaning surfaces that are left untreated could become slick.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported Wednesday afternoon that troopers were still responding to several crashes and jackknifed semi-trucks.
The majority of these incidents are in the areas of Moorhead and Fergus Falls.
Other crashes are concentrated in the northwest and west central parts of Minnesota, with 22 crashes reported from midnight to 4:30 p.m on Wednesday.
The Minnesota State Patrol said those crashes included four non-life-threatening injuries, including six jackknifed semis and 13 other vehicles that spun out or ran off the road and required trooper or tow truck assistance.

Troopers say they responded to at least six jackknifed semis in west central Minnesota on Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported, but the trooper noted the roads are "obviously slippery" with snow and ice.

In a 9:40 a.m. update, the State Patrol said between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., troopers responded to six jackknifed semis along I-94, in addition to several reported crashes and spinouts in central and northwestern Minnesota.
"Roads are covered in snow and ice. Please use due care when traveling," Sargeant Jessee Grabow wrote on X.
Current road conditions
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation's website, as of 10:45 a.m. roads across the Twin Cities could be partially covered in snow due to the forecast, while some roadways in northwestern Minnesota are covered in ice.

Jelly Roll will be joining Malone on the tour as the opening act along with Sierra Ferrell for the Minneapolis gig.
The tour kicks off on April 29 in Salt Lake City and ends on July 1 in San Fransisco.
Better known for his pop career, Malone recently released his debut country album "F-1 Trillion" which made it to the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
Since debuting in 2016, Malone has seen multiple hits, including but not limited to "Sunflower," "Better Now" and "Circles."
Earlier this year, Malone performed "America the Beautiful" at the Super Bowl LVIII pregame.

Tuesday will see rain, turning to snow by Tuesday night, with highs around 47 degrees and lows near 33 degrees. Snow is likely on Wednesday with highs near 36 degrees.
The rest of the week will remain chilly, with highs in the mid-30s to near 40°F, strong winds, and a chance of snow through Thursday night.
By the weekend, expect partly sunny skies with temperatures in the low 30s to mid-30s.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis-based retail giant Target announced its store hours for Black Friday week and the rest of the holiday season.
Target stores will be open regular hours on Wednesday, Nov. 27. For the fifth year in a row, Target stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
On Black Friday, Nov. 29, doors open early at 6 a.m.
"Target is the place to be on Black Friday — and all season long — with incredible deals on thousands of items across every category and exclusive in-store items you'll want to pick up for everyone on your gift list this year," said Mark Schindele, chief stores officer at Target.
"With extended store hours, convenient same-day pickup and delivery options and around-the-clock online availability, you can choose when, where and how to shop, and our fantastic team will be there to deliver."

Target is rolling out its full slate of Black Friday deals from Nov. 24-30, promising expanded offers and weekend deals.
The retailer is promoting its order fulfillment options — including Drive Up, Order Pickup, and same-day delivery — as part of its efforts to make the holiday shopping experience as streamlined as possible.
Extended holiday shopping hours
Target is extending its holiday shopping hours this season, keeping stores open from 7 a.m. to midnight from Nov. 30 through Dec. 23 to accommodate shoppers during the busiest times of the year.
Customers can also take advantage of Black Friday deals and holiday sales around the clock through Target’s website and app.
New Taylor Swift merch
Target's Black Friday offerings will include a pair of exclusive releases that are likely to drive fans into stores.
On Friday, Nov. 29, the retailer will launch Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Book, a 256-page hardcover collection packed with more than 500 photos and personal reflections from the pop star herself. Swift fans will also find The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology available on vinyl and CD, another exclusive item likely aimed at the holiday rush.
Both the book and the album will be available in-store on Black Friday with a limit of four per guest.
For fans preferring to shop online, the items will also be available on the Target app and website starting early Saturday, Nov. 30, while supplies last.
